Batten down hatches & rethink insulation - 13th Apr 2017

Batten down hatches & rethink insulation In the midst of Cyclone Cook, following a week after Cyclone Debbie - it's a reminder to all about the importance of safety and looking out for each other - Whilst this is an ideal time to check your "storm supplies" water, torch, gas burner (lpg bottle), non perishables etc. It's also a great opportunity to think about your property and how to make it "storm safe-er"

For property owners, one of your biggest assets will be the property that you are renting out - if it is unhabitable, then your costs just went up further with no offset. *cue dramatic historical picture of roofless house. Property maintenance such as weatherproofing, painting, roofing & drainage checked yearly will go a long way to keep your house standing strong against the elements.

For tenants, if you notice a leak, drip or dark patch that wasn't there when the sun was out - please say something! Don't leave it to rot, mould or mildew as things left unnoticed will often get worse - not better. By say something, I mean e-mail - that way you both have a paper trail of when and what was discussed. Better to pay a maintenance man to fix a job in 5 minutes than being evicted for health & safety reasons and not able to come back for months.

Propertyscouts Manukau focus on being the bridge between Landlord & Tenant so that both parties are satisfied. Keep in mind, happy tenants - happy landlord.
